Over the past 12 months, Advisor AI and NACE completed Phase 1 of a responsible AI implementation designed to help the NACE community explore trusted career services, workforce, internship, competency, and early talent resources.
The goal was not to add another tool because the field needed more technology.

These are often the places where AI can reduce friction without disrupting the relational center of the work.
Where does trusted knowledge already exist?
Many institutions do not need to begin by creating something entirely new. They already have policies, advising guides, employer engagement practices, career readiness frameworks, internship resources, student-facing materials, and leadership documents. The challenge is making that knowledge easier to access and apply.
Where does human judgment need to remain central?
AI can help organize, summarize, and suggest. It can help professionals prepare. But it should not make consequential academic, career, or student support decisions on its own. In career services, context matters. A student’s goals, confidence, barriers, lived experience, and readiness cannot be reduced to a simple answer.
How will the tool be tested and improved?
Responsible implementation requires feedback loops, review, iteration, and clear accountability. Teams need to understand not only what the tool can do, but how it performs over time, where it needs refinement, and how users experience it inside real workflows.
How will staff actually use it?
The best AI implementation is not always the most dramatic one. It is the one people can understand, trust, and use in the flow of their work. For career services teams already carrying complex demands, usefulness matters more than novelty.

Taken together, these questions help institutions move beyond the surface-level conversation about AI. They shift the focus from adoption to implementation, from possibility to responsibility, and from what technology can do to how it can support the people doing the work.
