Three Years Building Higher Education's Trust Infrastructure and Supporting over 15,000 Advisors

Written by Advisor.AI | Sep 1, 2026

San Francisco, CA — Three years ago, Advisor AI began with a simple but ambitious question: What would it take to have every learner find a personalized path to pursue their boldest dreams?

To find the answer, our founder and CEO, Arjun Arora, alongside a team of higher education professionals and advising experts, traveled more than 30,000 miles across the country and gathered feedback from advising professionals at more than 200 community colleges, public universities, private institutions, and workforce organizations.

Along the way, they asked: Why aren't more students engaging with campus resources? Why aren't more students enrolling and completing their programs of study? Why are advising teams often overlooked as a critical strategy for institutional success? And why is confidence in higher education eroding despite significant technology investments?

The pattern was remarkably consistent across institutions. Students seeking to understand an academic policy, access a campus resource, explore a major, or prepare for a career often encountered information scattered across multiple websites, systems, and processes. The result was confusion, declining engagement, and fewer opportunities to build trust and meaningful connections. At the same time, advisors reported spending a significant portion of their day locating information, answering recurring questions, recreating context, and coordinating support across fragmented and often disconnected systems. The result was less time for proactive outreach, relational support, and the work that matters most: helping students navigate challenges, achieve their goals, and stay connected.

“We did not start with a product. We started with a question: How can we help more students access the guidance, support, and opportunities they need to succeed?” said Arjun Arora.

“Over the past three years, while assessing advising programs across hundreds of colleges and universities, one thing became clear: students were often disengaged not because they did not value the support available to them, but because navigating resources had become increasingly complex. At the same time, the professionals at the center of student success were constrained by fragmented systems, disconnected information, and growing expectations.

Our goal was never to build the flashiest AI platform. It was to create something practical, easy to use, evidence-based, and informed by real-world practice, a resource that helps institutions and teams to build trust at every step of the student journey while empowering more students to take meaningful action.

Technology is simply a means to that destination. At Advisor AI, more features have never been the main goal.”

Three Years of Supporting the Global Advising Community

Over the past three years, the founding team has worked alongside thousands of students, advising professionals, enrollment teams, and institutional leaders across hundreds of colleges and universities to better understand what builds student trust and what enables advising professionals to demonstrate measurable gains in student outcomes.

What began as a set of interconnected questions has evolved into a comprehensive library of field research, implementation guides, expert resources, and contributions to the community.

  • Over 15,000 resource views and case study downloads: Advisors and administrators across more than 500 colleges have attended our webinar sessions and accessed our library of resources over the last 24 months.
  • From a community of 100 advisors in 2023 to more than 15,000 advisors today: Through growing enterprise partnerships, event engagements, and partnership with the National Association of Colleges & Employers.

"It's this continuous cycle of experimentation versus waiting 12 months to see results. Teams can do outreach within the first few weeks and start iterating within 3 months. If you embed this into an advising appointment, you can see where students are getting stuck within days and then ask: do we have a workshop on that? That's powerful." — Kim Sprought, career services leader for more than 20 years.

"NACE has long maintained a robust library of valuable insights and critical data, but accessing that information in an intuitive and seamless way has been a challenge. Our partnership with Advisor AI enables us to better serve the needs and curiosity of members nationwide." — Shawn VanDerziel, CEO, National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE)

"Introducing structured pathways earlier in recruitment creates immediate alignment between what students care about and what your institution offers. It builds trust, confidence, and deeper engagement from day one." — Michael Griffin, former VP of enrollment management with over 30 years in higher ed.

A Proven Standard for Crafting a Transformative Student Experience

The philosophy behind Advisor AI is rooted in decades of research on student success interventions and appreciative advising principles. From the beginning, the goal was never simply to digitize existing processes, but to help institutions and staff translate proven interventions, such as guided pathways and case management, into connected experiences.

Rather than starting with “What can AI automate?”, Advisor AI starts with a different question: How can we help students feel more supported, advisors feel more empowered, and institutions deliver consistent guidance at scale?

Today, Advisor AI is a leading enterprise-ready, research-informed student success platform designed to honor the commitment and busy schedules of advising professionals worldwide. Developed alongside thousands of students, advisors, and institutional leaders, informed by millions of data points and advising interactions over 3 years, and refined through more than 100,000 hours of engineering efforts. The result is a resource grounded in care and proven practices.

  • Three years of continuous learning and refinement: Refined based on weekly feedback from thousands of users over multiple years, with over 100,000 engineering hours completed to date, has helped inform an experience rooted in care & connection.
  • From major exploration to enterprise readiness: What began as a major exploration tool for business students has evolved into an industry leading enterprise platform supporting thousands of traditional, dual enrollment, and adult learners, as well as use cases across the student lifecycle, ranging from first interest to enrollment, persistence, graduation, and lifelong growth.
  • Built by leading advising and ethical AI experts: 100+ years of combined experience leading student success initiatives and successfully delivering more than 100 enterprise AI solutions.

"There are so many great features of Advisor AI. Students can get answers instantly from the interactive advising assistant, saving time for them and the advisors. It's intuitive, fun, and easy to use for students and requires little training for advisors." — Alan Beaudrie, advisor for over 20 years, contributed to research.

"As institutions explore AI, the question isn’t whether to adopt technology — it’s how to do so responsibly, transparently, and in service of students. In Advisor AI, we saw a powerful tool that prioritizes human judgment, ethical design, and institutional trust." — Brian Sailer, Executive Director of Student Success & Persistence, Central New Mexico Community College

"This is the third AI company that we have worked with and the only one where the product has made it from start through multiple feedback cycles. And we have partners in the community actually interested in using this. All of that is because of the partnership." — Emery Peck, Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer at Ivy Tech Community College, Muncie Campus

Next: Helping Every Campus Build a Culture of Responsiveness and Trust

The promise of AI in student success is not another digital interface or platform.

It is the opportunity to connect the people, expertise, resources, and information institutions already have, while learning more quickly from what students need. For students, that means clearer guidance and more relevant next steps. For advisors, it means actionable insights that help build trust and create more capacity for relational advising. For leaders, it means visibility into which interventions are working and where institutions can respond more effectively.

“There is no shortage of AI products entering higher education today,” Arora said. “What institutions are sharing with us each week is that there is still a gap when it comes to solutions that fit the realities of advising and higher education. In today’s environment, if it takes years to implement, launch, and see results, it may simply be too late for teams to respond and adapt to rapidly changing expectations around student support and accountability.”
